Product Details

The Air Velocity Transducer 8455 (general purpose) is ideal for both temporary and permanent installations for air velocity measurements in research and development labs, manufacturing processes, and other applications. Model 8455 contains on-board electronics and calibration curves that provide a linear signal output. This linear signal is sent out as either a current (mA) or a voltage (V) signal, allowing output to a variety of data loggers or data acquisition systems. Best of all, the current and voltage output ranges are easily changed by the user in under five minutes.

Ideal applications include comfort and draft studies, critical environment installations (e.g., clean rooms and hospitals), diffuser design analysis, monitoring drying processes, monitoring air flows in tunnels and subways, used as a standard in wind tunnels and calibration facilities, environmental monitoring in greenhouses and IAQ applications as well as general engineering applications.

FAQs
  • Can a transducer be connected to more than one output indicator?
Yes, as long as they are connected in parallel for units with voltage output and in series for current output. The resistance of all output indicators in series cannot exceed 270 Ohms on a unit with a current output.
  • Can I make multi-point readings?
The transducer makes single-point readings. For multi-point readings, additional transducers must be purchased.
  • How do I recalibrate a transducer?
The transducer is returned to TSI for calibration to be performed in a laser-verified wind tunnel. The calibration information is programmed into an EPROM and the typical turnaround is one week for any recalibration or service.
  • How long is the warranty period for the transducers?
The warranty period is one year. See the instruction manual for details.
  • Is there an RS-232 output connector on the transducer?
No. The analog output from the transducer is a continuous linear output in 0-5V, 0-10V, 1-5V, 2-10V, 0-20 mA, or 4-20 mA depending on how it is set by the user. It is field-selectable and changeable.
  • What features do the Model 8455/8465/8475 Transducers offer?
Each model transducer offers field-selectable velocity range, time constant, output signal, and input power. Optional probe length of 3, 6, 9, or 12 inches (75, 150, 225, or 300 mm) must be specified at the time an order is placed.
  • What is the accuracy of the transducers?
The accuracy for Models 8455 and 8465 is ±2.0 percent of reading ±0.5 percent of full-scale. The Model 8475 is ±3 percent of reading ±1 percent of full-scale. The accuracy is the sum of the two components of the specifications.Example: If you have a Model 8455 with a full-scale range of 4,000 ft/min and an output of 0-5 volts and it reads 4.0 V (or 3,200 ft/min) the accuracy is calculated as follows: ±0.5% of reading ±0.5% of full scale = ±0.02(3,200 ft/min) ±0.005(4,000 ft/min) = ±64 ft/min ±20 ft/min, The total accuracy is the then equal to ±84 ft/min or 2.6% at 3,200 ft/min.
  • What transducers are available from TSI?
TSI offers the Model 8455 General-Purpose Transducer, Model 8465 Windowless Transducer, and the Model 8475 Omni-directional Transducer.
