TSI's PDM 1000-3P Photodetector Module is used in TSI three-component PDPA/LDV systems. It combines an interchangeable optics block, called the light bar, with high-sensitivity photodetectors for ease-of-use and high performance operation. The ultra-sensitive photodetectors are response-matched for phase, and exploit the latest advances in PMT technology to convert the scattered light to electrical signals.
The PDM system requires no alignment. The user simply connects the receiving fiber cables to the PDM 1000-3P light bar. Scattered light from the PDPA receiver or the transceiver is separated by wavelength with custom dichroics and other optics, eliminating color contamination but maximizing throughput. This is a key factor in maximizing the date rate of phase Doppler systems and from the violet channel.
The photodetector voltage is controlled and monitored via software to optimize signal quality. A built-in control circuit prevents photomultiplier tube saturation. The PDM 1000-3P also includes the 12-bit A/D converter used to measure pedestal amplitude.
