COMBUSTION ANALYSIS

Measurements in combustion chambers, flames or high temperature flows require non-invasive diagnostic systems. Data on flow and particle dynamics in combustion systems is used to improve combustion efficiency, improve energy transfer, enhance spray characteristics, reduce emissions and improve system design.

TSI PDPA and LDV systems provide flow velocity and particle size information at a point in the flow field as a function of time. PIV is used in basic combustion studies, to measure the global in-cylinder flow field in IC engines and for time-resolved measurements of flow field evolution over a single engine cycle. TSI PLIF systems make global scalar measurements of fuel distribution and species measurements of combustion radicals.

TSI CA-CALC™ Combustion Analyzers can also be used in combustion research. They will verify measured values against a gas standard, and are portable to allow laboratory or field operation. They have been used with diesel, natural gas and propane engines to research new components for lowering exhaust emissions.

TSI particle instruments Condensation Particle Counters (CPCs) and Particle Sizers are also used in combustion studies.
