CA-CALC™ SINGLE GAS MONITORS - This unit has been discontinued.
TSI's Series CA-6000 CA-CALC Single Gas Monitors are ideal exhaust gas analyzers for residential to commercial service technicians and safety inspectors measuring combustion exhaust gases. These exhaust gas analyzers are used to make direct and ambient exhaust gas measurements for tuning and preventative. Plant engineers and maintenance professionals can check critical exhaust gas concentrations on combustion systems as part of a program. CA-CALC Single Gas Monitors are also used for periodic monitoring of target gases in process and in system maintenance applications with consequences for exceeding concentration thresholds.
Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors are used on a large range of combustion systems including furnaces, boilers, process heaters, gas appliances, and combustion equipment.
Models are available that measure O2, CO (0-1%), CO (0-2%), CO (0-8%), NO, NO2 and SO2.

- Are sensors interchangeable between models?
Each model of the Series CA-6000 and the Series CA-6100 Combustion Test Instruments is designed to measure specific parameters only.
- Are the CA-CALC™ Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors battery powered? If so, how long will an instrument operate on battery power?
Run times with standard AA batteries assure a minimum 10 hours of continuous operation and generally operate for more than 12 hours with the pump on. Battery life of the CA-CALC™ is increased substantially when the pump is switched off between measurements.
- Can the CA-CALC™ Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors be used to determine total NOx from exhaust gases?
The CA-6030 measures NO and the CA-6040 measures NO2. To get an estimated value for total NOx, multiply the measured NO value by 1.05. For more accurate total NOx values, use the CA-6040 to measure the NO2 and the CA-6030 to measure the NO. Add the two measured values together to get the total NOx. Other analyzers are available from TSI if to allow simultaneous measurement of these two gases with a single instrument.
- Can the Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors measure gases on systems that have unique fuels, like wood pellets?
These instruments do not calculate values that are fuel type dependant. They are capable of measuring any gas samples that are within the specification limits of the instrument.
- Do the CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors require factory service when sensors need recalibration or replacement?
Factory service is not required for these tasks. These instruments are designed for easy field service including recalibration or replacement of sensors. This is one of the exceptional features of the CA-CALC. All new sensors are shipped pre-calibrated from the factory for easy field installation to minimize instrument downtime.
- Does the CA-CALC™ have UL or CSA approval? If not, why do we not have these approvals?
In general, CSA and UL are not required for the combustion analysis products currently offered by TSI. The instruments do not have intrinsic safety requirements or other safety requirements for which UL or CSA would be required.
- How does the emissions probe improve SO2 and NO2 measurement accuracies?
The emissions probe is effective for measuring NO2 and SO2 because of the advanced design. The interior surfaces of the emissions probe do not wet, and moisture is swept out of the tubing into the trap. If extended sampling with a high moisture content is to be done, or local regulating authorities require heated lines and/or a moisture removal trap, the CA-6000 would be set up to take the sample after the moisture removal device.
- How durable is the CA-CALC™ Combustion Analyzer? In particular, will the hose fittings withstand being dropped? Will it stand up to water spray? Oil spray? How do you clean it if you get oil or grease on it?
The CA-CALC™ is a very durable instrument. It has been drop tested, it has a splash resistant design and it can be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth and a small amount of a mild soap or isopropyl alcohol. Its total design is rugged to withstand the harsh environments of some mechanical rooms and test locations. Care should be taken to avoid placing the instrument in puddles, as the sensor and battery compartment covers are not watertight.
- How often do the CA-CALC™ Combustion Test Instruments need recalibration?
A baseline calibration is performed during the warm up cycle each time the instrument is powered up in clean air, unless bypassed by the operator. This baseline calibration recalibrates the span of the oxygen sensor (to 20.9%), and the zero point for all other sensors. For most accurate measurements, TSI recommends annual full recalibration of the sensors as a minimum. Recalibration services are available through TSI, through a local calibration facility or by anyone with a calibration kit. If recalibration is done at the factory, the instrument is cleaned and inspected in addition to the full instrument calibration. Heavy use of the instrument would warrant more frequent recalibration.
- Is an AC adapter available for the CA-CALC™ Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors?
The CA-CALC 6000 series does not have an AC adaptor jack. It operates for 10-15 hours on a set of 4 ‘AA’ batteries.
- What certifications does the CA-CALC™ Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors have?
The Series CA-6000 Single Gas Analyzers have passed CE testing as required by European Regulations. CE testing verifies that the instrument is not a source of, nor affected by, particular electromagnetic frequencies and intensities.
- What do the CA-CALC™ Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors measure?
Series CA-6000 Single Gas Monitors are available as separate models measuring O2, CO, NO, NO2, SO2 and a high concentration of CO as individual gases.
- What happens if the CO sensor becomes saturated by exposure to high CO concentrations? Does it require re-calibration if this happens? How long does it take to recover?
Sensors exposed to high concentrations of a gas can take up to several hours to recover to zero. In most cases the reading will return to acceptable baseline in less than 15 minutes. For faster recovery, run the instrument in clean air with the probe hose detached from the instrument until it recovers. Recalibration of sensors is not needed but a baseline calibration is recommended to correct for any drift that has occurred.
- What is the best calibration gas package for a customer who buys a CA-6000 Single Gas Monitor?

KITs include the appropriate calibration gas cylinder, a demand flow regulator, probe adaptor kit and a carrying case. Outside North America, gasses can be purchased locally and setup for recalibration as diagrammed in the Operation and Service Manual. Copies are available from the web site.
- What is the difference between the water-stop filter and the water trap? When is the water trap used?
The water-stop filter is safety device to prevent moisture from entering the sensor area of the instrument. When liquid moisture hits the filter media in the water-stop filter, the flow of air and moisture cannot pass through the water-stop filter. The water trap is designed to filter out particulate and condense moisture out of the gas sample to prevent liquid moisture from entering the sensor area of the instrument and to minimize the likelihood of moisture condensing on the sensors. When measurements are taken under high moisture conditions, and sample durations are expected to be longer than the time it takes for a spot check, the water trap is recommended. It is possible to use the water stop filter in addition to the water trap for added protection. Place the water-stop filter in line between the water trap and the instrument.
- Why does a special “emissions” probe come with some models of the CA-CALC™ Series CA-6000?
The special probe (P/N 801998) is required whenever NO2 or SO2 are being measured. The gases are highly water-soluble and may be scrubbed out by dissolving in water droplets that can form on some materials. Accurate measurements of NO2 and SO2 are made possible because of the design of the emissions probe.
