LOW-FLOW THERMODENUDER

The presence of volatile particles and their precursors in particulate exhaust emissions can have great influence over the size measurement when the exhaust cools and dilutes. The Low-Flow Thermodenuder removes precursors and volatile particles from an aerosol sample for subsequent measurement of dry particle size. It is optimized for use with TSI Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) systems.

The Thermodenuder works by heating the aerosol to a preset temperature (0 to 400C 1 K) and adsorbing any volatile particles. Active carbon is the adsorption material. This accessory operates within a flow range of 0.2 to 2 L/min, with optimal flow at 0.5 to 1 L/min.

Features and Benefits
  • Removes gaseous precursors and volatile particles
  • Continuous, flow-through design
  • Compatible with SMPS systems
Applications
  • Determining fractions of solid and volatile components in vehicle exhaust*
  • Measuring emissions from direct-heating boilers, exhaust from industrial stacks, and emissions from biomass burning*
*Applications relate to use of the Thermodenuder with an SMPS system.
