1. Do I need to enter the Wi-Fi SSID and password each time I plug in/power my BlueSky™ Air Quality Monitor?

  • No, once the WiFi SSID and password are entered, as long as the WiFi access information has not changed, there is no need to re-enter the information again.

2. My Wi-Fi is very intermittent. What happens if I often lose connection to TSI Link™ Solutions?

  • A 16 GB SD card is installed into the device at the factory. The data will be backed up on the SD card. Data is also buffered within the firmware for a limited time (data is logged for approximately one week at 15 minute intervals) and once the Wi-Fi connection is re-established, the buffered data is posted to TSI Link™ Solutions. However, if there is no Wi-Fi or internet connection for over a week, TSI Link Solutions will start missing data. If this happens, and if an SD card is installed in the monitor, you will need to retrieve the data manually from the card. Also please note that the SD card cannot save data in the cloud solution or be backed up to TSI Link Solutions.

3. I don’t know my SSID or the password for my network. What can I do?

  • Your SSID can always be found using a smartphone. Go to the wireless settings on your phone and look for the SSID.

If you don’t know the password, you may need to either ask the person who setup the Wi-Fi or reset the wireless modem and set a new SSID and password on the wireless router. If this is an installation on a commercial network, please check with your system administrator or IT department.

4. What if I entered the wrong SSID and/or password when I setup my BlueSky Air Quality Monitor?

  • If the entered SSID and/or password was wrong, when the BlueSky monitor is turned on and fails to connect to the Wi-Fi, the green LED light at the bottom of the BlueSky monitor will flash two times repeatedly, indicating that the connection to Wi-Fi was not established. Use the Quick Start Guide to enter the SSID and password information again.

If you suspect there is a problem with the Wi-Fi you are trying to connect to, try to temporarily connect the BlueSky monitor to your smartphone by using your smartphone as a hot spot. NOTE: this meant only to make sure the BlueSky monitor is working and is not recommended as a permanent solution.

5. I don’t have Wi-Fi. Can I still use the BlueSky Air Quality Monitor?

  • Yes, a BlueSky monitor will run without Wi-Fi. However, an SD card has to be installed. Keep in mind TSI has already installed this for you at the factory. Please note the SD card will not connect to TSI Link Solutions – you will need to manually download data from the SD card. Make sure the BlueSky monitor is powered down/unplugged when you attempt to open the monitor to access the SD card.

6. At what radio frequencies does your Wi-Fi antenna work?

  • The frequency range for the Wi-Fi module is 2.4 GHz – 2.5 GHz. The protocols are 802.11 b/g/n (802.11n up to 150 Mbps)

7. I cannot connect Wi-Fi to my BlueSky Air Quality Monitor due to security reasons. What are my options?

  • You can use the BlueSky monitor without Wi-Fi. Data will be logged onto an SD card. Please note the SD card will not connect to TSI Link Solutions – you will need to manually download data from the SD card. Make sure the BlueSky monitor is powered down/unplugged when you attempt to open the monitor to access the SD card.

8. Is your Wi-Fi secure?

  1. What data is exchanged between the BlueSky Air Quality Monitor and my Wi-Fi network?
  2. Is an IP address or port number provided?
  3. Is data pushed or pulled from the server?
  • BlueSky monitor connects to TSI’s servers using standard TCP/IP connections much like a standard secure webpage connection. A secure connection is used between the device and TSI’s servers to upload sensor data and pull configuration data. No IP address or port number is provided to the user, and it doesn’t require any port-forwarding rules in the router/firewall. The device will work with any network configuration (including NAT) that uses DHCP for IP address assignment. Note that the device will not work in networks where a proxy server is used to access the internet.

9. How do I know that the BlueSky Air Quality monitor is connected to the Wi-Fi?

  • The LED at the bottom of the BlueSky monitor will flash once every two seconds when connected to Wi-Fi. If it flashes twice or three times repeatedly, the BlueSky monitor is not connected to the WiFi and there is a connectivity problem. However, it will continue to function normally, and, if an SD card is installed, data will be stored onto the SD card.

Data will also be logged in the firmware for a limited time (data is logged for approximately one week at 15 minute intervals) and once the Wi-Fi connection is re-established, the buffered data is posted to TSI Link Solutions. However, if there is no WiFi or internet connection for over a week, TSI Link Solutions will start missing data.

10. How far from the wireless router can I install the BlueSky Air Quality Monitor?

  • If there is a direct line of sight between the Wi-Fi router and the BlueSky monitor, the range can be as high as 200 feet or 60 meters. Walls, trees, and other structures can significantly reduce the range.

11. Can my BlueSky Air Quality Monitor be hacked?

  • We follow the standard security protocols in the design of BlueSky monitors and TSI Link Solutions. However, it is an internet solution – just like any other device on the internet, a BlueSky monitor can be hacked by a dedicated hacker although the probability is very low.
